34th Early Music Days event series, hosted by Filharmonia Hungary Non-profit Ltd, will be held in Vác between 30 June and 7 July 2018. The master courses, completed by several festival concerts of world-renowed performers, provide ideal opportunities to further education for musicians, professionals and undergraduates coming from Hungary and abroad.

This year, the vocal and instrumental courses of the festival will be centered around Italian and German Baroque music, focusing to the Mass in H minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Master courses:

  • Alois Glaßner – conducting master course (With participation of the Capella Savaria and the Purcell Choir)
  • Emőke Baráth – vocal master course
  • Hannfried Lucke – organ master course
  • Bernhard Forck – violin master course
  • György Vashegyi – chamber music master course

The Early Music Days project is recognised as an accredited 30 hour further education programme.

 

Conducting master course

Alois Glaßner

Featuring: Capella Savaria and the Purcell Choir

Language of the course: English, German

Course material: Mass in H minor by J.S. Bach

 

Number of active participants: 8 persons

There is a minimum of 6 active students required for this course to start.

The number of the passive participants is not limited.

 

Vocal master course

Emőke Baráth

Language of the course: Hungarian, German

Course material: Mass in H minor by J.S. Bach and other optionally selected works by Bach. Italian early Baroque music: works of Monteverdi and Cavalli along with a few less-known composers such as Agostino Steffani and Alessandro Stradella. Music sheets will be provided by the course leader.

In addition to getting professional knowledge of the Baroque repertoire, the participants will have an opportunity to improve their skills in pronunciation and declamation and learn how to recognise and apply stylistic considerations in their performance.

Number of active participants: 15 persons

Students of the vocal master course will be eligible to participate in the activity of the conducting course as well.

There is a minimum of 5 active students required for this course to start.

The number of the passive participants is not limited.

 

Violin master course

Bernhard Forck

Language of the course: English, German

Course material:

Corelli’s influence on the Italian and German violin music as it is revealed in the sonatas by Corelli, Locatelli, Vivaldi, Tartini and Geminiani and violin pieces by Bach, Händel, Telemann and Pisendel. Participants will meet much more, less known yet excellent works of the era preceding Corelli’s period, including pieces by Uccellini, Fontana, Marini, Schmelzer and Biber.

Organ master course

Hannfried Lucke

Language of the course: English, German

Course material: organ works by J. S. Bach are in the focus of the course. Furthermore, organ music of the period between the early tablatures and Baroque era will be covered. Participants can get relevant experiences in instrument crafts and use.

Number of active students: 12 persons

There is a minimum of 5 active students required for this course to start.

The number of the passive participants is not limited.

PARTICIPATION FEE:

Filharmonia Hungary Non-profit Ltd invites tenders for full and partial scholarships with the following conditions:

 

  1. Full scholarship

Requirements of completion:

Cooperation in the preparatory phase:

  • making campaign videos promoting the festival

Additional activities during the festival:

  • Regular Facebook posts during the festival: pictures taken at the courses, short interviews with the organizersm professors, presentations ont he venues etc.
  • Creating events and flashmobs to promote concerts and off-programmes.

Individual tenders for receiving full scholarships are also accepted.  

 

  1. 50 % allowance
  • For participants of the conducting course: 72 000 HUF – 240 EUR
  • For participants of the vocal and instrumental courses: 27 000 HUF/90 EUR

Requirements of completion:

Cooperation in the preparatory phase:

  • setting up a contact list of 50 items of institutes (universities, music schools, schools), willing to cooperate

and/or

  • setting up a list of 25 items of online and printed media outlets willing to cooperate with contact details

and/or

  • writing short posts on the festival topics for the festival website e.g. researches on the venues of the organ course and the renovated instruments; writing portraits about the professors with personal details, researches on the history of the festival; interesting facts about the central figures of the festival

and/or

  • Collecting photo materials, posters, Instagram posts on the topic of the timeliness of early music

Additional activities during the festival:

  • compilation of feedback questionnaires, implementation of online and off-line researches (Google and paper) at the end of the festival
  • participating in performances and flashmob events in neighbororous towns
  • patricipation and assistance in community building actions

 

  1. 20 % allowance
  • for the participants of the conducting course: 115 200 HUF / 384 EUR
  • for the participants of the vocal and instrumental courses: 43 200 HUF / 144 EUR

 

Requirements of completion

  • for pre-registered (Hungarian or international) applicants whose application form arrives not later than 30 January 2018
  • for those applicants who brings a new participant (someone who has never participated before at any master courses of Early Music Days).

In addition to the above, any creative ideas and contents are welcome; the best ones will be rewarded with additional alowances by Filharmonia Hungary.

Further outstanding performances of study and competition will be awarded with additional allowances. Applicants are requested to inform the organizer about their eligibility.

 

Full prize without any allowances

Conductor course: 144 000 HUF/480 EUR

Vocal and instrumental courses: 54 000 HUF/180 EUR

 

PARTICIPATION FEE FOR PASSIVE PARTICIPANTS:

For the participants of the conducting course:  25 000 HUF/ 80 EUR

For the passive participants of the vocal and instrumental courses: 15 000 HUF / 70 EUR

 

Course fees and the tickets for opening and closing concerts are included in general participation fee.

Course students who would like to participate at all the concerts are required to pay a premium of 6 000 HUF/20 EUR.

Participation fee can be payed on the spot after arriving.
