Ilya Ram

Ilya Ram was born on January 1991 in New-York. He began studying the piano at the age of 6. Ramgraduated from high-school with excellence in the departments of music and philosophy after which he spent a year doing educational volunteer work in a developing town in Israel. He began studying conducting at the age of 19 with Maestro Guy Feder while continuing his volunteer work with the Israeli branch of Physicians for Human Rights. In 2011 he began his studies in the Buchmann Mehta School of Music in Maestro Yi-An Xu’s class. 

Ilya Ram is a young conductor who graduated with Excellency in Orchestral Conducting and Musicology from Buchman-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv (Israel). Currently he is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik “Carl Maria von Weber” in Dresden, under the direction of Prof. Ekkehard Klemm. He is also continuing his piano studies with Dr. Yossi Reshef in Berlin.

In summer 2017 Ram was one of the first four conductors to be admitted to the Bayreuther Festspiele Masterclass for Conductors, where he assisted in the production and rehearsals of "Tannhäuser for Children" and received conducting and coaching lessons from Christian Thilemann, Hartmut Hänchen, Marek Janowski, Thomas Lausmann and Georg Christoph Sandmann.

He is a recipient of the AICF “Sharet” Scholarship for young Musicians in 2014 and 2016 in the category of Orchestral Conducting and has been invited already during his B.A. studies to conduct the NKO (Netanya Kibbutz Orchestra, Israel) orchestra several times, as part of their educational program. Ram is also a recipient of the DAAD Scholarship for Outstanding Musicians 2017-2018 and conducted a concert at the Grand Opening of the new BallsportArena in Dresden.

Additional to his formal studies, Ram has participated in a number of masterclasses, festivals and conducting academies under the baton of some of Europe’s greatest conducting pedagogues: the Gstaad Menuhin Festival with Maestro Neeme Järvi, ISA Allegra festival with Maestro Johannes Schläfli, CEME Festival for contemporary music with Maestro Pierre-Andre Valade and a masterclass in Weimar with Maestro Nicloas Pasquet. During his studies he conducted several orchestras in a number subscription concerts including the Carter Chamber Orchestra, the BMSM Orchestra, the Elblandphilharmonie Sachsen and the Nordböhmische Philharmonie.
